In this article, we will talk about how you can get a PERFECT score in your GRE with the help of certain strategies and techniques. We have chosen some tried and tested methods and activities for achieving a PERFECT GRE score which we will be sharing with you all.

So, let’s begin with the Quantitative Reasoning section of the GRE.

  • How to get a PERFECT GRE Quantitative Reasoning score?

The total possible score for the Quantitative Reasoning section of the GRE is 170. Here is how you can also achieve the PERFECT score:

  1. Focus on Concepts

A lot of test takers focus on practicing more than they focus on understanding concepts. No matter how many techniques you learn for solving different problems, unless you are not clear on concepts, they will never be fruitful for you.

GRE Math tests basic high school concepts from Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, and Data—so make sure that all your concepts are clear before you start with the practice questions.

  1. Practice, Practice, Practice

After your concepts are as clear as a cleaned glass, hop onto practice questions. Here, practice wide and deep, as much as possible, from all levels of difficulty. Familiarize yourself with as many questions as you can, so nothing is new to you on the actual test and you feel more confident than you were at the beginning of the exam.

  1. Timing

Standardized tests such as GRE, SAT, etc. assess a student’s time management skills significantly. Thus, make sure that you do not get bogged down on a question you find particularly difficult.

If, for instance, you feel that you comparatively take longer time at geometry-related questions, save them for the end. Additionally, if there’s a question that you feel will take longer to calculate, or you are being bogged down by the lengthy prompt, just mark it, and attempt it after you have completed all other questions.

Remember that in the actual test, you do have the option to “Mark” and “Review” questions from the list.

Most importantly, while practicing full-length Mock GREs, time yourself according to the timings of the actual test so you can familiarize yourself with the time crunch of the GRE.

  • How to get a PERFECT GRE Verbal Reasoning score?

Like the Quantitative Reasoning section, the total possible score for the Verbal Reasoning section is also 170. And yes, it is absolutely possible to achieve a full score on this section. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Focus on Comprehension

A lot of test-takers focus on rote-learning vocabulary words, and leave out the important bit of preparation amidst this. GRE Verbal only makes up 20% of vocabulary related questions. The rest assesses a candidates’ comprehension and reading skills.

Instead of rote-learning vocab words with meanings, focus more on reading deep and wide, from multiple subjects, such as literature, science, philosophy, etc. This will also familiarize you with words within their context, eventually helping build your vocabulary.

Having the slightest sense about the word can save you from losing a point, and it is skills that give you a sense of so many words that you will come across in the actual exam.

  1. Practice, practice, practice

Once you have learned and understood the basic comprehension concepts, practice! Familiarize yourself with all types of questions and difficulty-levels and practice as much as you can.

Try fastening your reading skills so you can read more in less time and comprehend the information effectively.

  1. Timing

Similar to Quantitative Reasoning section, Verbal Reasoning section also assesses your time management skills. For instance, if you feel that a comparatively technical passage (physics, biology, computer science) will take you longer to read and attempt, leave it for later.

Attempt the sentence equivalence and text completion questions, then move on to passages, according to an ascending order of their lengths.

Lastly, we strongly recommend the test-takers ensure that they have completed the following checklist before they sit for the GRE Exam.

If you are done with the list above, you are good to go. You have done enough practice and you should feel confident about yourself. However, if you feel you want to further improve and spend more time practicing. I repeat, the key to success is concepts. The more conceptually clear you are, the more confident you will be about your answers.

Keep learning and Good Luck ☺
